Several township police officers attended a HAZMAT technician level class, held at the Bethlehem Fire Department last week. The class was attended by mostly fire department personnel from Bethlehem but also included 2 police officers from Bethlehem Police, 5 of our police officers and 1 of our Fire Inspectors for the township.

Salisbury Township employees were as follows:

Sgt. Kevin Soberick
Sgt. Donald Sabo
Ofc. Jason Laky
Ofc. Kyle Rehatchek
Ofc. Brian Zulic
Fire Insp. Kyle Mertl

The class was 80 hours of verbal and practical instructions spread over the course of two weeks. Prerequisites to attend a technician level training are Hazmat awareness and Hazmat operations. Successful participants of this class receive a national certification (Proboard) certifying them as Technicians.

The completion of this level of training, will now allow officers to identify and possibly mitigate potential hazards on a daily basis that occur within the township, and also will bring increased cooperation and inter-agency work with the Lehigh County Hazmat team and Special Operations Group.
