Questions & Answers About The New Fireworks Law

The following information was gathered through a review of the new law and from information available on the Pennsylvania State Police website.
A new Pennsylvania fireworks law was signed on October 30, 2017. The new law allows Pennsylvania residents to purchase and use "Class C" or consumer-grade fireworks that include fire crackers, roman candles, bottle rockets and all similar fireworks that contain a maximum of 50 milligrams of explosive material. The expansion includes those fireworks that were previously only available to out of state residents.

Who can purchase and use fireworks in Pennsylvania?
Anyone 18 years of age or older.

What are the restrictions on where they can be used?
*They can not be ignited or discharged on a public or private property without the express permission of the property owner. Salisbury Township prohibits the use of fireworks on any Township property (including all of our parks).
*They cannot be discharged from or within a motor vehicle or building.
*They cannot be discharged toward any motor vehicle or building.
* They cannot be discharged within 150 feet of an occupied structure.
* They cannot be discharged by any person who is under the influence of alcohol, a controlled substance, or another drug.

Salisbury Township will be reviewing our current ordinance to determine the need for revisions. Please remember that any type of fireworks have the potential to cause injuries and fire when they are used carelessly. Before you decide to purchase and use fireworks, remember that you be liable for any injury or damage that you cause. Also think about your neighbors who may be alarmed by the loud noise.
